The work is rather crude and rough in the upper body, but the face draws characteristics from the funeral mask of the saint.
Height - 3.1 m. (10ft 4in) travertine
Francis is depicted with his eyes looking up and his hands across his chest. At his feet is a miter, rarely present in the iconography of the saint.

On 15 July 1702, Frugoni undertook the commission and delivered the statue on 6 September 1703.

Her right hand holds a flaming heart, her traditional attribute. Her left hand is pressed against her habit, perhaps an allusion to transverberation.

On 18 July 1702 Alignini agreed to make the statue, which he delivered on 14 March 1703
Sculptor - Antonio Alignini
In 1702 he received two payments of 10 scudi, and the following year the balance of 60 scudi. This is the only known work of the artist.

This classical sculpture shows an originality and mastery of technique, especially in the rendering of the details of the face, hair and hands. Her right hand originally held a palm of martyrdom.
