Alexander Jannaeus was a son of John Hyrcanus, inherited the throne (ruled over an expanding kingdom of Judea from 103 to 76 BCE) from his brother Aristobulus, according to the Biblical law of Yibum ("levirate marriage"), although Josephus is inexplicit on that point. - from Promptuarium Iconum Insigniorum book, 1553.
