"Eastern Quail", The quail and her young ones: The Israelites wanted some flesh to eat, but they had none. Then a great many quails came to the place where they were. There were so many quails that the ground was covered with them. Then the Israelites went out and caught them, and they brought them to their homes and ate them. It was God who sent the quails for the Israelites to eat. The Israelites are picking up something off of the ground. It is manna they are picking up. God has sent it for them to eat. It is small and round and white, and tastes as if it had honey in it. Every morning God sends enough manna for all the men, and women, and little children to eat that day. God never forgets to send it, but he sends only enough for one day. And the Israelites go out in the morning and gather it off of the ground and put it in jars and bowls, and they carry it to their homes, and make cakes of it and eat it." - from "Bible Pictures" book, by W. A. Foster, 1897.
