Image: Capital Peacocks Bawit

Two- zone type basket- shaped capital decorated with plate- work, peacocks, fruit bowls, crosses and ram heads.
A chevron- patterned band surrounds the base of the capital. The lower section resembles a flat wicker basket executed in sharp relief. The corners of the upper section are decorated with the fore parts of rams with the spaces filled alternately with a peacock surmounted by a cross and a bowl of fruit. The crests and tails of the peacocks are schematically carved.
This limestone capital from Bawit (st. Apollo Monastery), or Saqqara (st. Jermia Monastery), dated to 6th century. Now in Coptic Museum at Old Cairo, No. 8688.

تاج عمود من الحجر الجيرى على شكل سلة مزينة بضفائر وطاؤوس وطبق فاكهة وصليب ورؤوس كباش. وتوجد دعامة تحيط بقاعدة التاج.
الجزء السفلى للتاج به نقش لأغصان مجدولة، يعلوه نقش لضفائر متتالية، ويعلوه طاؤوس منقوش بين رؤوس كباش، ويعلو ظهر الطاؤوس طبق فاكهة يعلوه صليب، ورأس الطاؤوس وذيله عليه نقوش منسقة وتاج العمود هذا موجود الآن في المتحف القبطى بالقاهرة تحت رقم (8688). ومثل هذه التيجان وجدت في باويط أو سقارة وترجع للقرن السادس الميلادى.
