I went yesterday in the evening to St. Gorges Church in BahrDar, as my hotel was near it, and asked for the Diocese Office, and thank God that it was beside the church, and I was told to come the second day, as the office was closed at that time.

ذهبت مساء الأمس إلى كنيسة القديس مارجرجس في بحر دار، حيث كان الفندق بجانبها، وسألت على مكتب الإيبارشية، ونشكر الله أنه كان في نفس أرض الكنيسة، وقيل لي أن آتي في الغد في مواعيد المكتب.

I found a mosquitoes net hanging from the ceiling of the hotel-room!  The reason of course is that this is the time of the spreading of the Malaria disease from mosquitoes..  The funny thing is that I started taking AntiMalaria-Tablets weekly starting from previous April, as I was planning to make this trip before the Holy Easter, then it was postponed till after Easter, then I discovered that the Credit Card doesn’t work here in Ethiopia, and it was very hard to contact Egypt due to the telecommunication problems here, then finally I got some money from Egypt to save the situation!  Thank God for everything..

وجدت في حجرة الفندق في السقف "ناموسية" معلقة!  السبب بالطبع هو أننا الآن في موسم انتشار مرض الملاريا من الناموس..  الشيء الطريف هو أنني بدأت أخذ حبوب ضد-الملاريا أسبوعياً من أواخر شهر إبريل، حيث كان من المفروض أن تتم هذه الرحلة قبل عيد القيامة المجيد، وتأجلت إلى ما بعد العيد، ثم اكتشفت أن كارت الائتمان لا يعمل في إثيوبيا، وتعذر الاتصال بمصر بسبب مشاكل الإتصالات هنا، ثم أخيراً تم إرسال بعض المال لي من مصر إنقاذاً للموقف!  الحمد لله على كل حال..

I woke up early to go to the Diocese Office, and I was welcomed when they knew I was from Egypt, “we are brothers” as I was told..  Some of the magic words here are the name of “St. Takla Himanot”, and that we are from His Church in Egypt, and also the name of His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, that has a special effect, as He is very loved here, has a high popularity, and His teachings are translated into the Amharic Language..

استيقظت مبكراً للذهاب إلى مكتب الإيبارشية، وتم الترحيب بي بعدما علموا أنني من مصر، فنحن أخوة we are brothers كما قيل لي..  ومن الكلمات السحرية هنا هو اسم القديس تكلا هيمانوت، وأننا من كنيسته بمصر، وكذلك اسم قداسة البابا شنوده الثالث له وقعٌ خاص، حيث أنه يحظى هنا في كل الأماكن بشعبية ضخمة، وتعاليمه منتشرة باللغة الأمهرية.. 

There was no electric power that day, so they couldn’t write the permission for the Monasteries, and they started typing it on the typewriter, then I discovered that they made it for some Monasteries in particular, so I asked for a general permission for the Holy places in the Parish..  That is better than to take 20 permissions for twenty Monasteries for example!!  I arranged with one of the Ethiopians at the Office, to accompany me on that trip by boat tomorrow to visit some of Lake Tana Monasteries, with the Monastery of Abba Teklehaimanot topping the list, and we would pay for him something, in addition to paying for the boat and the needed things..

لم يكن هناك تيار كهربائي في هذا اليوم، لذا تعذر كتابة التصريح للأديرة المطلوبة، وتم البدء في الكتابة على الآلة الكاتبة، وبعدها علمت أنهم حددوا بعض الأديرة، فطلبت تصريحاً عاماً للأماكن المقدسة بالإيبارشية..  فهذا أفضل من أن آخذ 20 ورقة لعشرين ديراً مثلاً!!  وأتفقت مع أحد الأحباش بالمكتب على أن يصحبني في الغد في هذه الرحلة بالقارب لزيارة أديرة بحيرة تانا المتنوعة، وعلى رأسها دير القديس تكلا هيمانوت، على أن نقوم بدفع مبلغ من المال له، بالإضافة لدفع تكاليف المركب والأشياء التي سنحتاجها..

I got to know also that there is a new Monastery by the name of Saint Takla Haymanout in BahirDar, I’ll try to visit it before leaving Bahir Dar God willing.

علمت أيضاً بوجود دير حديث في بحر دار باسم القديس تكلا هيمانوت، سأحاول الذهاب إليه قبل أن أترك بحر دار بإذن الله.
