President Hosni Mubarak issued Republican Decree No. 54 of 2011 forming a commission to study and propose amendments to some constitutional and legislative provisions.
The commission, under the decree, will be chaired by Counselor Serri Mahmoud Seyam - Chief Justice of the Court of Cassation and Head of the Supreme Judicial Council - with ten legal experts as its members.
The commission will study and suggest amendments to Articles 76, 77 and 88 - among other articles of the Constitution - to bring about political and democratic reform and you can read the Egyptian Constitution here at St-Takla.org in Arabic. To meet the aspirations of the people in regard with the presidential elections, according to the decree.
The commission will assume its duties as of the effective date of the decree and will present its periodical reports to the vice president of the republic.
The commission shall complete its tasks by late February and submit a report to the vice president on the results of its studies to be presented finally to the president to take decisions necessary to amend the constitution.
The decree shall be published in the official gazette and will be effective from the date of it publication.
