215- Debra = Mountain

 ديبرا = جبل

That was the Monastery of Debra Damu..  As we mentioned before that the word “Debre” means “mountain”, as most of the Ethiopian Monasteries are built over mountains..  That Monastery was established by Saint Aragawy, which is one of the nine Saints that preached in Habesha..  God showed Him that place..  The Monastery is not graded at any side, i.e. totally vertical..  The story says that he went up the mountain by the help of a large snake..  From that day forward there is no way to climb the mountain except by ropes only..!  And it is the same exact way being used till this day!

هذا هو دير ديبرا دامو..  وكما ذكرنا سابقاً أن كلمة "ديبرا" تعني "جبل"، حيث أن معظم الأديرة الحبشية مبنية على جِبال..  وقد أسس هذا الدير القديس أراجاوي، وهو أحد القديسين التسعة الذين بشروا في الحبشة..  وقد أراه الله هذا المكان..  والجبل غير مُدَرَّج من أي من الجوانب، أي أنه رأسي تماماً..  وتحكي القصة أنه صعد على الجبل بواسطة ثعبان كبير..  ومن وقتها لا يوجد طريقة لصعود الجبل إلا بواسطة الحبال فقط لا غير..!  وهي نفس الطريقة المستخدمة حتى اليوم!
