193- Debre Berhan Sellasie Church

After that I went to “Medanny Allam” Church (The Savior of the World Church), and was told to come after an hour..  When I did, I was told -after a long discussion, explaining that I am not a tourist- to come in the next morning..

بعد هذا ذهبت إلى كنيسة ميداني ألام (مخلص العالم)، وقيل لي أن آتي بعد ساعة..  وبعدما أتيت بعد فترة قيل لي -بعد مناقشة طويلة لتوضيح أنني لست سائحاً- أن آتي صباح الغد..

I went also to the Monastery of Debre Borhan Selassie (The Light of the Holy Trinity Monastery), it has one of the most magnificent Ethiopian Churches, an ancient one..  Built by Emperor Eyaso II in the 17^th century..  And when the Mahdy Darawish of Sudan plundered Gondar, they destroyed all the Churches in town, except this one, as it was said that a beehive came out on them, and they couldn’t burn the Church..

ذهبت أيضاً إلى دير ديبرا برهان سيلاسي (دير نور الثالوث)، وكنيسته هي من أروع الكنائس الحبشية، وهي أثرية..  بناها الإمبراطور إياسو الثاني Emperor Eyasu II في القرن السابع عشر..  عندما نَهَب دراويش المهدي من السودان مدينة جوندار، قاموا بحرق جميع الكنائس بالمدينة، عدا هذه الكنيسة، التي قيل أن خلية نحل قد خرجت عليهم، ومنعتهم من هذا الأمر..

The Church is very beautiful, and the most famous part of it is the ceiling, that is all covered by faces of hundreds of Angels..  Unfortunately photography using flash is forbidden..  But we got some nice shots, with of course Abune Teklehaimanot’s icon..

الكنيسة رائعة الجمال، وأشهر ما فيها هو وجوه مئات الملائكة في السقف كله..  للأسف التصوير بالفلاش غير مسموح به..  ولكننا استطعنا الحصول على العديد من الصور الجيدة، على رأسها بالطبع صورة القديس تكلا هيمانوت..
