223- No women allowed!

 للرجال فقط!

At the bottom of the mountain there are two Churches, one by the name of Saint Mariam the Good Intercessor (Kidane Mehret), and the other is a new Church by the name of Saint Taklehaimanot..

أسفل الدير يوجد كنيستان، واحدة باسم السيدة العذراء الشفيعة "كنيسة كيداني ميهريت"، والأخرى كنيسة حديثة تحت البناء باسم القديس تكلاهيمانوت..

It is worth mentioning that females are forbidden from climbing that Monastery at all..  I mean females as in every females..!!  Meaning animals either!!  I found up there bulls, cocks..  But not cows or chicken!!!  At the story of Abune Aragawy, His mother insisted on climbing up there when she felt that she’s going to die, and she died up, and was buried there..  From that day the women were allowed to go up the mountain, only after they die!!!! There are hundreds of tombs up there all around the edge of the mountain..  And burial of dead bodies still occur till this day..

من الجدير بالذكر أن الدير ممنوع صعود النساء إليه، والطريف أن أي أنثى ممنوعة..  أقصد حتى إناث الحيوانات!!  فوجدت في الأعلى ثيران وديوك..  ولكن لا يوجد بقر أو فراخ!!!  وفي قصة حياة القديس أرجاوي، أصرَّت والدته على الصعود إليه عندما شعرت بقرب وفاتها، وماتت في الأعلى، ودُفِنَت هناك..  ومن وقتها تم السماح للنساء بصعود الدير، فقط بعد موتهن!!!!  حيث توجد مئات القبور في الأعلى على حدود الجبل..  وتتم عملية دفن جثث في ذلك المكان حتى هذا اليوم..

The land up there has hundreds of cells for monks..  And lots of trees, birds and lizards..  But there are mainly no over the mountain..  One inside the cells of the monks, and the other by the name of Saint Argawy, no one enters it except only one monk, I don’t know why, and I tried to inquire about that matter and was not answered back!  They enter it only on the day of anniversary of the Monastery on October 14 (Ethiopian Calendar)..  I think it is the Church that has the Holy Relics of Abona Arigawy..

الأرض من أعلى بها مئات القلالي (للرهبان) المبنية..  وبها العديد من الأشجار والطيور والعظاءات (السحالي)..  ولكن تقريباً لا يوجد أي حيوانات برية، فقط حيوانات المزرعة التي يتم تربيتها في الأعلى، أو إصعادها من أسفل الجبل..  يوجد أيضاً فوق الجبل ثلاث كنائس..  واحدة وسط قلالي الرهبان، وأخرى باسم القديس إرجاوي، لا يدخلها أي أحد سوى راهب واحد فقط، لا أعرف لماذا، وحاولت الاستفسار فلم يتم الرد عليّ!  ويدخلونها فقط في عيد إنشاء الدير يوم 14 أكتوبر بالتقويم الحبشي..  وأظن هي الكنيسة المدفون فيها جسد القديس أرجاوي..

The third Church, which we visited is by the name of St. Argawi too..  Very simple, with some icons..  Built from olive tree wood and stones, decorated at the ceiling with animal carvings that were used to bring the stones and woods needed for the building..  I saw a manuscript for the Life and Miracles of Saint Virgin Mary, and another one for the Holy Synaxarium..  The monk father who was responsible for that church was a bit rough..  But on my way down I met a father monk, his name is “Abona Argawy”, he was so welcoming, and was so happy to know that there is a Church by the name of Saint Taklehaimanot the Ethiopian in Egypt, and he told me that no Egyptians had come to that mountain before..

الكنيسة الثالثة وهي التي قمت بزيارتها هي باسم القديس أرجاوي كذلك..  وهي كنيسة بسيطة جداً، بها بعض الأيقونات..  والكنيسة مبنية من خشب الزيتون والأحجار، ويزينها من أعلى نقوش خشبية تمثل بعض الحيوانات التي استخدمت في إحضار الأحجار والأخشاب المستخدمة في البناء..  رأيت مخطوطاً لحياة ومعجزات القديسة مريم العذراء، وكذلك مخطوطاً للسنكسار..  الأب الراهب المسئول عن تلك الكنيسة كان جافاً في التعامل..  ولكن في طريق نزولي من الدير قابلت أحد الآباء الرهبان واسمه "أبونا أرجاوي" وكان مُرَحِّباً جداً، وفرح بعلمه أن هناك كنيسة باسم القديس تكلا هيمانوت الحبشي في مصر، وأخبرني بأنه لم يأت أي مصري قبل ذلك إلى هذا الدير..
