116- A Nun-to-be

 راهبة في المستقبل

He approved reluctantly!  And we went to the monk in charge, who had woken up so early in the morning for prayers and giving the sermon after the Liturgy, and he was resting at that time..  After he got out from his cell, the secretary of the Abbot and Brother Ballata spent a while talking with him in Amharic, and the result was that it was not easy that he came with us to the place of the manuscripts, and that I had to come the second morning, and they would bring the big manuscripts of Saint Taklehaimanot at the Abbot’s Headquarters, and I went there directly..  I tried to note that I prefer to go to the place where the manuscripts were already there (to have a chance to see more!), but I saw that it was better to finish this matter first, then see what could be done.

فوافق على مضض!  وذهبنا إلى الراهب المسئول، الذي قد كان مستيقظاً من فجر هذا اليوم للصلاة وإعطاء العظة بعد القداس، وهو الآن في فترة الراحة..  وبعدما خرج لنا من قلايته، وقضى سكرتير الرئيس والأخ بالاتا فترة في الحديث معه بالأمهرية، انتهينا إلى أنه صعب أن يأتي معي الآن إلى مكان المخطوطات، وعليَّ أن أحضر صباح الغد، وهم سيقومون بإحضار المخطوط الكبير للقديس تكلاهيمانوت في مقر رئيس الدير، وأذهب أنا إلى هناك مباشرة..  فحاولت أن أوضح أنني أفضل أن أذهب للمكان الموجود به المخطوطات بالفعل في أي وقت (حتى تكون لدي فرصة لأرى مخطوطات أثرية أخرى!)، ولكن وجدت أنه يجب أن أنهي هذا الأمر أولاً، ثم بعد هذا نرى ما يمكن عمله.

That was all I was going to do at that day, then head back to Addis Ababa..  There was no electric power, which meant that I couldn’t use the laptop for long due to the limit life of the battery..  Red. Ballata offered that I go with him to his sister’s house nearby (the second day I discovered that she is not his sister, but here they had true feelings of brotherliness, and strong relationship with everyone), we went together, and I learned that she was planning to join the nunnery that was nearby next year to become a nun..  She offered us two kinds of bread, as I already had my breakfast, I noticed that one of them is cooked using the firewood of the Camphor tree, and the bread had a distinguishable taste and scent..  They were surprised when I told them about that correct note..

وكان هذا كل ما كنت سأفعله في هذا اليوم، ثم أعود إلى أديس أبابا..  وكان التيار الكهربائي في هذا اليوم منفصلاً، مما يعني أنني لن أستطيع أن أعمل على اللاب توب فترة طويلة، بسبب محدودية البطارية..  فعرض على الأخ بالاتا أن أذهب إلى منزل شقيقته المجاور للدير (علمت اليوم التالي أنها ليست شقيقته، ولكنهم هنا مشاعرهم الحقيقية هي مشاعر أخوة، وعلاقاتهم وطيدة جداً مع الجميع)، فذهبنا معاً, وعلمت أنها سوف تذهب للدير المجاور للراهبات العام القادم لكي تصبح راهبة..  وقامت بتقديم نوعين من الخبز لنا، حيث كنت قد تناولت طعام الإفطار بالفعل، ولاحَظت أن أحدهم مطهياً على حطب من شجر الكافور، وفي الخبز طعم وراحة مميزة..  واندهشوا عندما أخبرتهم بهذه الملاحظة السليمة..

Brother Ballata had told her before about our visit to Habesha, the visit of Pope Shenouda the Third, and the website Saint Taklehaimanot on the Internet..  She was eager to see the photo of H. H. Pope Shenouda and the photos we took on the day of the celebration of the feast of Saint Taklehaimanot..

وكان قد حكى لها الأخ بالاتا عن رحلتنا إلى الحبشة، وزيارة البابا شنوده، وموقع الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت على الإنترنت..  وكانت في اشتياق لترى صورة البابا شنوده والصور التي قمنا بتصويرها يوم الاحتفال بعيد الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت..
