There are a lot of words and liturgical expressions that many people do not know or may know them without knowing their origin or use. The aim of this new section at St-Takla.org is to give an idea about the most important ecclesiastic words that are used in different rituals to benefit the Copts in general and particularly to help researchers and God’s servants. The dictionary will not only include some liturgical Coptic expressions, but it will also include those expressions in the Syrian and Antiochian Churches, as well as the Greek Church.

Being familiar with the liturgical expressions and understanding them is in itself a live ecclesiastic participation and worship that makes the worshipers of God in His Home be able to participate in spiritual fruitful prayers.

The main source of this dictionary is a book by Fr. Tadros Malaty under the name: "Dictionary of Church Terms" for children (a simplified dictionary), 1992, which was originally published in Arabic, then translated by Dr. Nora El-Agamy.  We also have a section for Coptic Ritual Terms in Arabic.

Please notice that this dictionary is for the liturgical expressions and this is different from the Holy Bible dictionary which includes names and expressions in the Bible.
