وفاة الكاتب المصري نجيب محفوظ الحائز على جائزة نوبل

Naguib Mahfouz (born December 11, 1911 - died August 30, 2006) was a Nobel Prize winning Egyptian novelist.

نجيب محفوظ (ولد في 11 ديسمبر 1911 - توفي يوم 30 أغسطس 2006) هو كاتب مصري فاز بجائزة نوبل للأدب.

Naguib Mahfouz was born in the Gamaliya quarter of Cairo; he was named after Professor Naguib Pasha Mahfouz, the physician who delivered him. A longtime civil servant, Mahfouz served in the Ministry of Mortmain Endowments, then as Director of Censorship in the Bureau of Art, Director of the Foundation for the Support of the Cinema, and, finally, as a consultant to the Ministry of Culture.  He published more than 30 novels. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1988.

وقد ولد نجيب محفوظ بحي الجمالية بالقاهرة، وتمت تسميته باسم "نجيب باشا محفوظ" وهو الدكتور الذي قام بتوليده، لذا فاسمه هو اسم مركب. وقد عمل بالخدمة المدنية في وزارة الأوقاف، ثم مديراً عاماً للرقابة على المصنفات الفنية عام 1959، ومدير مؤسسة دعم السينما، وأخيراً كمستشار في وزارة الثقافة. وقد نشر أكثر من ثلاثون رواية، ونال جائزة نوبل للأدب Nobel Prize in Literature عام 1988.

Many of his novels were first published in serialized form, including Children of Gebelawi and Midaq Alley which was adapted into a Mexican film starring Salma Hayek (El callejَn de los milagros).

كثير من رواياته نشرت بطريقة مسلسلة، منها أولاد الجبلاوي (أولاد حارتنا) و زقاق المدق (التي تم عملها كفيلم مكسيكي بطولة سلمى حايك).

Children of Gebelawi (1959), one of Mahfouz's best known works, has been banned in Egypt for alleged blasphemy over its allegorical portrayal of God and the monotheistic Abrahamic faiths of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In 1989, after the fatwa for apostasy against Salman Rushdie, a blind Egyptian theologian, Omar Abdul-Rahman, told a journalist that if Mahfouz had been punished for writing this novel, Rushdie would not have dared publish his. Sheikh Omar has always maintained that this was not a fatwa, but in 1994 Islamic extremists, believing that it had been one, attempted to assassinate the 82-year-old novelist, stabbing him in the neck outside his Cairo home. He survived and lived afterward under constant bodyguard protection. Finally, in the beginning of 2006, the novel was published in Egypt with a preface written by Ahmad Kamal Abu almajd. US trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas titled a song on his 2001 album Witness "Mahfouz". The 25-minute piece features singer Tom Waits reading an excerpt from Mahfouz's works.

وقد تم منع رواية أولاد حارتنا (1959) في مصر بسبب إدعاء أنها رواية بها بعض التجديف لأنها مثلت مجازاً بعض الشخصيات الدينية في اليهودية والمسيحية والإسلام. وفي عام 1989 بعد إصدار فتوى ضد سلمان رشدي، قال الشيخ عبد الرحمن الأعمى في أحد الأحاديث الصحفية أنه لو كان قد تم عقاب نجيب محفوظ على تلك الرواية في ذلك الوقت، لم يكن سلمان رشدي ليستطيع أن ينشر هذا. وقد قال الشيخ عمر عبد الرحمن أن هذه ليست فتوى fatwa، ولكن بسببها قام أحد المسلمين المتطرفين في عام 1994 بمحاولة اغتيال الكتاب الكبير نجيب محفوظ بطعنه في الرقبة (وكان عمره حينئذ 82 عاماً). وقد نجا من تلك المحاولة بحمد لله، وبقي في حماية حارس شخصي.. وأخيراً وفي بداية عام 2006 بدأ إعادة نشر تلك الرواية بمقدمة كتبها أحمد كمال أبو المجد. وقد قام عازف البوق والملحن ديف دوجلاس بإهداء أغنية لنجيب محفوظ في ألبومه عام 2001 بعنوان "شاهد" Witness. وقام المغني توم ويتس فيها بقراءة مقاطع من كتابات محفوظ.

Until the day he died, Mahfouz was the oldest living Nobel laureate in Literature and the third oldest of all time, trailing only Bertrand Russell and Halldor Laxness. In July 2006, Mahfouz was taken to intensive care after an injury to his head upon falling. He died on August 30, 2006.

وحتى يوم وفاته، كان نجيب محفوظ هو أكبر فائزي جائزة نوبل للآداب سناً، وثالث الكتاب الأكبر سناً الفائزين في كل العصور، وقد سبقه برتراند راسيل وهالدور لاكسنيس. وفي يوليو 2006 تم وضعه في العناية المركزة بعد سقوطه. وتوفي يوم 30 أغسطس 2006.
