 صلبان من الرخام

Then he asked me to come back next Monday, as the next day was Sunday..  I thought that it was now a good time to head back to Addis Ababa, to finish some things, and maybe also go to the journey of North Ethiopia (as my family sent me some money to end this problem of the Credit Card, with Rev. Fr. Bishoy Helmy in his second visit to Ethiopia), and then I could come back to Debre Libanos to finish that matter God willing..  I got back to the “Fetche” Station in a horse-rickshaw, then to “Etshagal” area to pay for the hotel, and take the rest of my belongings..  During waiting for any bus or microbus heading for Addis Ababa, and Ethiopian man came towards me, and sat beside me on the pavement, I asked him about Addis Ababa transportations, he pointed at the other side of the street, there I should wait for the bus, and not here..  I thanked him, then he asked me about my nationality, and started talking in a poor Arabic tongue, and he told me that he lived in Djibouti for five years, and got back here..  I asked him about his work, he told me that work is scarce, and he is working on carving crosses from a stony matter, which is some kind of marble..

ثم طلب مني الحضور يوم الإثنين، حيث أن غداً هو يوم الأحد..  فشعرت أنه الآن الوقت المناسب أن أعود إلى أديس أبابا، وأنهى بعض الأمور بها، وربما أيضاً أذهب إلى رحلة شمال إثيوبيا (حيث أرسلت لي الأسرة مبلغاً من المال حلاً لمشكلة كارت الائتمان مع قداسة الأب بيشوي حلمي في زيارته الثانية للحبشة)، ثم بعدها أعود إلى ديبرا ليبانوس لإنهاء الأمر إن شاء الرب وعشنا..  وعدت إلى محطة "فيتشيه" بعربة يجرها حصان، ومنها إلى منطقة "إتشأجال" لأدفع بقية ثمن الفندق، وآخذ حاجياتي..  وفي وقت إنتظاري لأي أتوبيس أو ميكروباص يذهب إلى أديس أبابا، تقدم إلىَّ أحد الرجال الأحباش، وجلس بجواري على الرصيف، فسألته عن مواصلات أديس أبابا، فأشار إلى الناصية الثانية، وهي التي ينبغي أن أقف أنتظر بها، وليس هذه الناحية..  فشكرته، ثم سألني عن جنسيتي، وبدأ يتحدث معي بلغة عربية ركيكة، وأخبرني أنه عاش في جيبوتي Djibouti خمسة سنوات، وعاد هنا..  وسألته عن عمله، فأخبرني أن العمل هنا شحيح، وهو يعمل في صناعة الصلبان من مادة حجرية (نحت)، وهي نوع من أنواع الرخام..

I asked him to show me how he does this handicraft..  He took me to his nearby house, I got there in the room he uses for this craft..  I found large pieces of white-rosy marble, they cut it first to smaller pieces using a special saw, then they emery it with sandpaper..  After that they draw on it the shapes they want using a pencil, and start cutting it with smaller saws and other tools..

فطلبت منه أن يريني كيف يقوم بهذه الحرفة..  فصحبني إلى منزله القريب، ودخلت معه إلى الحجرة التي يصنع فيها هذه الصلبان..  ووجدت قطع كبيرة من الرخام لونه وردي مائل للبياض، يقومون أولاً بقطعها قطع أصغر عن طريق منشار خاص، ثم صنفرتها..  بعد هذا رسم تخطيط عليها بالقلم الرصاص حسب الشكل الذي يريدونه، وبدء تقطيعها بمناشير أصغر حجماً وأدوات أخرى..
