First of all, note that Ethiopia follows a mixture of the Ancient Egyptian Calendar (Coptic Calendar) and a locally developed Calendar (indigenous), so now (2008) in Ethiopia is the year 2000 (Second Millennium!), starting from September 11, 2007.  So, the Ethiopian Calendar differs greatly from the Julian as well as the Gregorian Calendars.

قبل كل شيء، نوضح أن أثيوبيا تتبع خليطاً من التقويم المصري القديم (التقويم القبطي)، وتقويماً تم تطويره محلياً (فطري)، فالسنة الآن (2008) في إثيوبيا هي عام 2000 (الألفية الثانية)!  بدءاً من يوم 11 سبتمبر 2007.  لذا، فإن التقويم الإثيوبي يختلف كثيراً عن التقويم اليولياني، وأيضاً التقويم الغريغوري.

This exhibition is organized by The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahido Church Patriarchate in Addis Ababa, on the occasion of the celebration of the 2000 anniversary of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.  It was opened to public on September 14, 2007.  And it is extended to visitors from all over the world until the end of the celebration of the millennium.  Read more...
