Season Pascha Week
Tune : Attribis
Strict Abstinence
Theme of the day : Day of teaching Parables in the temple and preaching about the end of the world.

Verse of the Day :

Matthew 24 : 35

Chapter 24

35Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

First Hour

Exodus 19 : 1 - 9

Chapter 19

1In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on the same day, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.
2For they had departed from Rephidim, had come to the Wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness. So Israel camped there before the mountain.
3And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
4"You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles' wings and brought you to Myself.
5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine.
6And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel."
7So Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8Then all the people answered together and said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do." So Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD.
9And the LORD said to Moses, "Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever." So Moses told the words of the people to the LORD.

Job 23 : 2 - 24 : 25

Chapter 23

2"Even today my complaint is bitter; My hand is listless because of my groaning.
3Oh, that I knew where I might find Him, That I might come to His seat!
4I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments.
5I would know the words which He would answer me, And understand what He would say to me.
6Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would take note of me.
7There the upright could reason with Him, And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.
8"Look, I go forward, but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
9When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him.
10But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
11My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside.
12I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.
13"But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does.
14For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such things are with Him.
15Therefore I am terrified at His presence; When I consider this, I am afraid of Him.
16For God made my heart weak, And the Almighty terrifies me;
17Because I was not cut off from the presence of darkness, And He did not hide deep darkness from my face.

Chapter 24

1"Since times are not hidden from the Almighty, Why do those who know Him see not His days?
2"Some remove landmarks; They seize flocks violently and feed on them;
3They drive away the donkey of the fatherless; They take the widow's ox as a pledge.
4They push the needy off the road; All the poor of the land are forced to hide.
5Indeed, like wild donkeys in the desert, They go out to their work, searching for food. The wilderness yields food for them and for their children.
6They gather their fodder in the field And glean in the vineyard of the wicked.
7They spend the night naked, without clothing, And have no covering in the cold.
8They are wet with the showers of the mountains, And huddle around the rock for want of shelter.
9"Some snatch the fatherless from the breast, And take a pledge from the poor.
10They cause the poor to go naked, without clothing; And they take away the sheaves from the hungry.
11They press out oil within their walls, And tread winepresses, yet suffer thirst.
12The dying groan in the city, And the souls of the wounded cry out; Yet God does not charge them with wrong.
13"There are those who rebel against the light; They do not know its ways Nor abide in its paths.
14The murderer rises with the light; He kills the poor and needy; And in the night he is like a thief.
15The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying, "No eye will see me'; And he disguises his face.
16In the dark they break into houses Which they marked for themselves in the daytime; They do not know the light.
17For the morning is the same to them as the shadow of death; If someone recognizes them, They are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
18"They should be swift on the face of the waters, Their portion should be cursed in the earth, So that no one would turn into the way of their vineyards.
19As drought and heat consume the snow waters, So the grave consumes those who have sinned.
20The womb should forget him, The worm should feed sweetly on him; He should be remembered no more, And wickedness should be broken like a tree.
21For he preys on the barren who do not bear, And does no good for the widow.
22"But God draws the mighty away with His power; He rises up, but no man is sure of life.
23He gives them security, and they rely on it; Yet His eyes are on their ways.
24They are exalted for a little while, Then they are gone. They are brought low; They are taken out of the way like all others; They dry out like the heads of grain.
25"Now if it is not so, who will prove me a liar, And make my speech worth nothing?"

Hosea 4 : 1 - 8

Chapter 4

1Hear the word of the LORD, You children of Israel, For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land: "There is no truth or mercy Or knowledge of God in the land.
2By swearing and lying, Killing and stealing and committing adultery, They break all restraint, With bloodshed upon bloodshed.
3Therefore the land will mourn; And everyone who dwells there will waste away With the beasts of the field And the birds of the air; Even the fish of the sea will be taken away.
4"Now let no man contend, or rebuke another; For your people are like those who contend with the priest.
5Therefore you shall stumble in the day; The prophet also shall stumble with you in the night; And I will destroy your mother.
6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
7"The more they increased, The more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame.
8They eat up the sin of My people; They set their heart on their iniquity.

Psalms 120 : 2,6,7

Chapter 120

2Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue.
6My soul has dwelt too long With one who hates peace.
7I am for peace; But when I speak, they are for war.

John 8 : 21 - 29

Chapter 8

21Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come."
22So the Jews said, "Will He kill Himself, because He says, "Where I go you cannot come'?"
23And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
24Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."
25Then they said to Him, "Who are You?" And Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
26I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him."
27They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
28Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
29And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him."

Third Hour

Deuteronomy 8 : 11 - 20

Chapter 8

11"Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today,
12lest--when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them;
13and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;
14when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
15who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock;
16who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end--
17then you say in your heart, "My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.'
18"And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
19Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
20As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.

Sirach 2 : 1 - 9

Chapter 2

1Son, when thou comest to the service of God, stand in justice and in fear, and prepare thy soul for temptation.
2Humble thy heart, and endure: incline thy ear, and receive the words of understanding: and make not haste in the time of clouds.
3Wait on God with patience: join thyself to God, and endure, that thy life may be increased in the latter end.
4Take all that shall be brought upon thee: and in thy sorrow endure, and in thy humiliation keep patience.
5For gold and silver are tried in the fire, but acceptable men in the furnace of humiliation.
6Believe God, and he will recover thee: and direct thy way, and trust in him. Keep his fear, and grow old therein.
7Ye that fear the Lord, wait for his mercy: and go not aside from him, lest ye fall.
8Ye that fear the Lord, believe him: and your reward shall not be made void.
9Ye that fear the Lord, hope in him: and mercy shall come to you for your delight.

Job 27 : 1 - 20

Chapter 27

1Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said:
2"As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter,
3As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils,
4My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit.
5Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.
6My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.
7"May my enemy be like the wicked, And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous.
8For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life?
9Will God hear his cry When trouble comes upon him?
10Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?
11"I will teach you about the hand of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal.
12Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense?
13"This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty:
14If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
15Those who survive him shall be buried in death, And their widows shall not weep,
16Though he heaps up silver like dust, And piles up clothing like clay--
17He may pile it up, but the just will wear it, And the innocent will divide the silver.
18He builds his house like a moth, Like a booth which a watchman makes.
19The rich man will lie down, But not be gathered up; He opens his eyes, And he is no more.
20Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night.

Job 28 : 1 - 2

Chapter 28

1"Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place where gold is refined.
2Iron is taken from the earth, And copper is smelted from ore.

Kings 19 : 9 - 14

Psalms 119 : 154,155

Chapter 119

154Plead my cause and redeem me; Revive me according to Your word.
155Salvation is far from the wicked, For they do not seek Your statutes.

Matthew 23 : 37 - 24 : 2

Chapter 23

37"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
38See! Your house is left to you desolate;
39for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!"'

Chapter 24

1Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple.
2And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down."

Sixth Hour

Ezekiel 21 : 3 - 13

Chapter 21

3and say to the land of Israel, "Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I am against you, and I will draw My sword out of its sheath and cut off both righteous and wicked from you.
4Because I will cut off both righteous and wicked from you, therefore My sword shall go out of its sheath against all flesh from south to north,
5that all flesh may know that I, the LORD, have drawn My sword out of its sheath; it shall not return anymore."'
6Sigh therefore, son of man, with a breaking heart, and sigh with bitterness before their eyes.
7And it shall be when they say to you, "Why are you sighing?' that you shall answer, "Because of the news; when it comes, every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it is coming and shall be brought to pass,' says the Lord GOD."
8Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
9"Son of man, prophesy and say, "Thus says the LORD!' Say: "A sword, a sword is sharpened And also polished!
10Sharpened to make a dreadful slaughter, Polished to flash like lightning! Should we then make mirth? It despises the scepter of My son, As it does all wood.
11And He has given it to be polished, That it may be handled; This sword is sharpened, and it is polished To be given into the hand of the slayer.'
12"Cry and wail, son of man; For it will be against My people, Against all the princes of Israel. Terrors including the sword will be against My people; Therefore strike your thigh.
13"Because it is a testing, And what if the sword despises even the scepter? The scepter shall be no more," says the Lord GOD.

Sirach 4 : 20 - 5 : 2

Chapter 4

20Then she will strengthen him, and make a straight way to him, and give him joy,
21And will disclose her secrets to him, and will heap upon him treasures of knowledge and understanding of justice.
22But if he go astray, she will forsake him, and deliver him into the hands of his enemy.
23Son, observe the time, and fly from evil.
24For thy soul be not ashamed to say the truth.
25For there is a shame that bringeth sin, and there is a shame that bringeth glory and grace.
26Accept no person against thy own person, nor against thy soul a lie.
27Reverence not thy neighbour in his fall:
28And refrain not to speak in the time of salvation. Hide not thy wisdom in her beauty.
29For by the tongue wisdom is discerned: and understanding, and knowledge, and learning by the word of the wise, and steadfastness in the works of justice.
30In nowise speak against the truth, but be ashamed of the lie of thy ignorance.
31Be not ashamed to confess thy sins, but submit not thyself to every man for sin.
32Resist not against the face of the mighty, and do not strive against the stream of the river.
33Strive for justice for thy soul, and even unto death fight for justice, and God will overthrow thy enemies for thee.
34Be not hasty in thy tongue: and slack and remiss in thy works.
35Be not as a lion in thy house, terrifying them of thy household, and oppressing them that are under thee.
36Let not thy hand be stretched out to receive, and shut when thou shouldst give.

Chapter 5

1Set not thy heart upon unjust possessions, and say not: I have enough to live on: for it shall be of no service in the time of vengeance and darkness.
2Follow not in thy strength the desires of thy heart:

Isaiah 1 : 1 - 9

Chapter 1

1The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I have nourished and brought up children, And they have rebelled against Me;
3The ox knows its owner And the donkey its master's crib; But Israel does not know, My people do not consider."
4Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the LORD, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.
5Why should you be stricken again? You will revolt more and more. The whole head is sick, And the whole heart faints.
6From the sole of the foot even to the head, There is no soundness in it, But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; They have not been closed or bound up, Or soothed with ointment.
7Your country is desolate, Your cities are burned with fire; Strangers devour your land in your presence; And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, As a hut in a garden of cucumbers, As a besieged city.
9Unless the LORD of hosts Had left to us a very small remnant, We would have become like Sodom, We would have been made like Gomorrah.

Psalms 18 : 48,17

Chapter 18

48He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.
17He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me, For they were too strong for me.

John 8 : 12 - 20

Chapter 8

12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."
13The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true."
14Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.
15You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
16And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.
17It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
18I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me."
19Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also."
20These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.

Ninth Hour

Genesis 6 : 5 - 9 : 6

Chapter 6

5Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
6And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.
7So the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them."
8But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
9This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.
10And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
13And God said to Noah, "The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
14Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch.
15And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.
16You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks.
17And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.
18But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark--you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.
19And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female.
20Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive.
21And you shall take for yourself of all food that is eaten, and you shall gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them."
22Thus Noah did; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.

Chapter 9

1So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
2And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
3Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.
4But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.
5Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man's brother I will require the life of man.
6"Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.

Proverbs 9 : 1 - 11

Chapter 9

1Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;
2She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table.
3She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city,
4"Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him,
5"Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed.
6Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.
7"He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.
8Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you.
9Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
10"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.

Isaiah 40 : 9 - 30

Chapter 40

9O Zion, You who bring good tidings, Get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, You who bring good tidings, Lift up your voice with strength, Lift it up, be not afraid; Say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!"
10Behold, the Lord GOD shall come with a strong hand, And His arm shall rule for Him; Behold, His reward is with Him, And His work before Him.
11He will feed His flock like a shepherd; He will gather the lambs with His arm, And carry them in His bosom, And gently lead those who are with young.
12Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance?
13Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him?
14With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding?
15Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.
16And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt offering.
17All nations before Him are as nothing, And they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless.
18To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to Him?
19The workman molds an image, The goldsmith overspreads it with gold, And the silversmith casts silver chains.
20Whoever is too impoverished for such a contribution Chooses a tree that will not rot; He seeks for himself a skillful workman To prepare a carved image that will not totter.
21Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
22It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers, Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.
23He brings the princes to nothing; He makes the judges of the earth useless.
24Scarcely shall they be planted, Scarcely shall they be sown, Scarcely shall their stock take root in the earth, When He will also blow on them, And they will wither, And the whirlwind will take them away like stubble.
25"To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy One.
26Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.
27Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: "My way is hidden from the LORD, And my just claim is passed over by my God"?
28Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.
29He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,

Daniel 7 : 9 - 15

Chapter 7

9"I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire;
10A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened.
11"I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.
12As for the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away, yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.
13"I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him.
14Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.
15"I, Daniel, was grieved in my spirit within my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

Proverbs 8 : 1 - 12

Chapter 8

1Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice?
2She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet.
3She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors:
4"To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men.
5O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.
6Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things;
7For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them.
9They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.
10Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold;
11For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.
12"I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion.

Psalms 25 : 1,2,3

Chapter 25

1To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
2O my God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let not my enemies triumph over me.
3Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

Matthew 24 : 3 - 35

Chapter 24

3Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"
4And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.
5For many will come in My name, saying, "I am the Christ,' and will deceive many.
6And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.
8All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9"Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake.
10And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
12And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.
13But he who endures to the end shall be saved.
14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
15"Therefore when you see the "abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand),
16"then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
17Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house.
18And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.
19But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!
20And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath.
21For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.
23"Then if anyone says to you, "Look, here is the Christ!' or "There!' do not believe it.
24For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
25See, I have told you beforehand.
26"Therefore if they say to you, "Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or "Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it.
27For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
28For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.
29"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
32"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
33So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the doors!
34Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
35Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Eleventh Hour

Isaiah 30 : 25 - 30

Chapter 30

25There will be on every high mountain And on every high hill Rivers and streams of waters, In the day of the great slaughter, When the towers fall.
26Moreover the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, And the light of the sun will be sevenfold, As the light of seven days, In the day that the LORD binds up the bruise of His people And heals the stroke of their wound.
27Behold, the name of the LORD comes from afar, Burning with His anger, And His burden is heavy; His lips are full of indignation, And His tongue like a devouring fire.
28His breath is like an overflowing stream, Which reaches up to the neck, To sift the nations with the sieve of futility; And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, Causing them to err.
29You shall have a song As in the night when a holy festival is kept, And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, To come into the mountain of the LORD, To the Mighty One of Israel.
30The LORD will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With scattering, tempest, and hailstones.

Proverbs 6 : 20 - 7 : 4

Chapter 6

20My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck.
22When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,
24To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress.
25Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, Nor let her allure you with her eyelids.
26For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life.
27Can a man take fire to his bosom, And his clothes not be burned?
28Can one walk on hot coals, And his feet not be seared?
29So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; Whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
30People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving.
31Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house.
32Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul.
33Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away.
34For jealousy is a husband's fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts.

Chapter 7

1My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you.
2Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye.
3Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart.
4Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," And call understanding your nearest kin,

Psalms 45 : 6 - 6;41 : 1 - 1

Chapter 45

6Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.
7You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.
8All Your garments are scented with myrrh and aloes and cassia, Out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.
9Kings' daughters are among Your honorable women; At Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.
10Listen, O daughter, Consider and incline your ear; Forget your own people also, and your father's house;
11So the King will greatly desire your beauty; Because He is your Lord, worship Him.
12And the daughter of Tyre will come with a gift; The rich among the people will seek your favor.
13The royal daughter is all glorious within the palace; Her clothing is woven with gold.
14She shall be brought to the King in robes of many colors; The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to You.
15With gladness and rejoicing they shall be brought; They shall enter the King's palace.
16Instead of Your fathers shall be Your sons, Whom You shall make princes in all the earth.
17I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; Therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

Chapter 45

6Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

Chapter 41

1Blessed is he who considers the poor; The LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

Matthew 25 : 14 - 26 : 2

Chapter 25

14"For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them.
15And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his own ability; and immediately he went on a journey.
16Then he who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and made another five talents.
17And likewise he who had received two gained two more also.
18But he who had received one went and dug in the ground, and hid his lord's money.
19After a long time the lord of those servants came and settled accounts with them.
20"So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, "Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.'
21His lord said to him, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
22He also who had received two talents came and said, "Lord, you delivered to me two talents; look, I have gained two more talents besides them.'
23His lord said to him, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'
24"Then he who had received the one talent came and said, "Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed.
25And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.'
26"But his lord answered and said to him, "You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed.
27So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.
28So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents.
29"For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.
30And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
31"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.
33And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
34Then the King will say to those on His right hand, "Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.'
37"Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?
38When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You?
39Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?'
40And the King will answer and say to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
41"Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
42for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink;
43I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.'
44"Then they also will answer Him, saying, "Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?'
45Then He will answer them, saying, "Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'
46And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Chapter 26

1Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that He said to His disciples,
2"You know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified."

First Hour of eve of Wednesday

Ezekiel 22 : 17 - 22

Chapter 22

17The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
18"Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to Me; they are all bronze, tin, iron, and lead, in the midst of a furnace; they have become dross from silver.
19Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.
20As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.
21Yes, I will gather you and blow on you with the fire of My wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst.
22As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so shall you be melted in its midst; then you shall know that I, the LORD, have poured out My fury on you."'

Ezekiel 22 : 23 - 29

Chapter 22

23And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
24"Son of man, say to her: "You are a land that is not cleansed or rained on in the day of indignation.'
25The conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured people; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in her midst.
26Her priests have violated My law and profaned My holy things; they have not distinguished between the holy and unholy, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they have hidden their eyes from My Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.
27Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood, to destroy people, and to get dishonest gain.
28Her prophets plastered them with untempered mortar, seeing false visions, and divining lies for them, saying, "Thus says the Lord GOD,' when the LORD had not spoken.
29The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully oppress the stranger.

Psalms 59 : 16,17

Chapter 59

16But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense And refuge in the day of my trouble.
17To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy.

Matthew 22 : 1 - 14

Chapter 22

1And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said:
2"The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son,
3and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come.
4Again, he sent out other servants, saying, "Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding."'
5But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.
6And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them.
7But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8Then he said to his servants, "The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.
9Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.'
10So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11"But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment.
12So he said to him, "Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?' And he was speechless.
13Then the king said to the servants, "Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'
14"For many are called, but few are chosen."

Third Hour of eve of Wednesday

Amos 5 : 18 - 27

Chapter 5

18Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is the day of the LORD to you? It will be darkness, and not light.
19It will be as though a man fled from a lion, And a bear met him! Or as though he went into the house, Leaned his hand on the wall, And a serpent bit him!
20Is not the day of the LORD darkness, and not light? Is it not very dark, with no brightness in it?
21"I hate, I despise your feast days, And I do not savor your sacred assemblies.
22Though you offer Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them, Nor will I regard your fattened peace offerings.
23Take away from Me the noise of your songs, For I will not hear the melody of your stringed instruments.
24But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream.
25"Did you offer Me sacrifices and offerings In the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
26You also carried Sikkuth your king And Chiun, your idols, The star of your gods, Which you made for yourselves.
27Therefore I will send you into captivity beyond Damascus," Says the LORD, whose name is the God of hosts.

Psalms 65 : 4

Chapter 65

4Blessed is the man You choose, And cause to approach You, That he may dwell in Your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.

Matthew 24 : 36 - 51

Chapter 24

36"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
37But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
38For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
39and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
40Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.
41Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
42Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
45"Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season?
46Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.
47Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
48But if that evil servant says in his heart, "My master is delaying his coming,'
49and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards,
50the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of,
51and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Sixth Hour of eve of Wednesday

Jeremiah 13 : 9 - 14

Chapter 13

9"Thus says the LORD: "In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.
10This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing.
11For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,' says the LORD, "that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.'
12"Therefore you shall speak to them this word: "Thus says the LORD God of Israel: "Every bottle shall be filled with wine."'"And they will say to you, "Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?'
13"Then you shall say to them, "Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land--even the kings who sit on David's throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem--with drunkenness!
14And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together," says the LORD. "I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.'

Psalms 102 : 1,2

Chapter 102

1Hear my prayer, O LORD, And let my cry come to You.
2Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble; Incline Your ear to me; In the day that I call, answer me speedily.

Matthew 25 : 1 - 13

Chapter 25

1"Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
2Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,
4but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
6"And at midnight a cry was heard: "Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!'
7Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
8And the foolish said to the wise, "Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'
9But the wise answered, saying, "No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.'
10And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
11"Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, "Lord, Lord, open to us!'
12But he answered and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.'
13"Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Ninth Hour of eve of Wednesday

Hosea 9 : 14 - 10 : 2

Chapter 9

14Give them, O LORD--What will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb And dry breasts!
15"All their wickedness is in Gilgal, For there I hated them. Because of the evil of their deeds I will drive them from My house; I will love them no more. All their princes are rebellious.
16Ephraim is stricken, Their root is dried up; They shall bear no fruit. Yes, were they to bear children, I would kill the darlings of their womb."
17My God will cast them away, Because they did not obey Him; And they shall be wanderers among the nations.

Chapter 10

1Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself. According to the multitude of his fruit He has increased the altars; According to the bounty of his land They have embellished his sacred pillars.
2Their heart is divided; Now they are held guilty. He will break down their altars; He will ruin their sacred pillars.

Psalms 22 : 20 - 21

Chapter 22

20Deliver Me from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog.
21Save Me from the lion's mouth And from the horns of the wild oxen! You have answered Me.

Matthew 23 : 29 - 36

Chapter 23

29"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,
30and say, "If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.'
31"Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.
32Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers' guilt.
33Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?
34Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.
36Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

Eleventh Hour of eve of Wednesday

Wisdom 7 : 24 - 30

Chapter 7

24For wisdom is more active than all active things: and reacheth everywhere by reason of her purity.
25For she is a vapour of the power of God, and a certain pure emanation of the glory of the almighty God: and therefore no defiled thing cometh into her.
26For she is the brightness of eternal light, and the unspotted mirror of God's majesty, and the image of his goodness.
27And being but one, she can do all things: and remaining in herself the same, she reneweth all things, and through nations conveyeth herself into holy souls, she maketh the friends of God and prophets.
28For God loveth none but him that dwelleth with wisdom.
29For she is more beautiful than the sun, and above all the order of the stars: being compared with the light, she is found before it.
30For after this cometh night, but no evil can overcome wisdom.

Psalms 57 : 1

Chapter 57

1Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by.

John 11 : 55 - 57

Chapter 11

55And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.
56Then they sought Jesus, and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, "What do you think--that He will not come to the feast?"
57Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might seize Him.

Not to be read in the Church during this time of the year.

Synaxarium

Day 2 of the Blessed Coptic Month of Baramoudah, may God make it always received, year after year, with reassurance and tranquility, while our sins after forgiven by the tender mercies of our God my fathers and brothers.
Amen.

The Second Day of the Blessed Month of Baramoudah

Martyrdom of St.Christopher

On this day St. Christopher was martyred. He was from the country, whose people were cannibals, those who believed on the hands of St. Matthias the apostle (As mentioned in the eighth day of the month of Baramhat). He had unsightly look and the body of a giant but his soul was good and gentle. When he was captured by the soldiers of Emperor Decius the infidel he admonished them for afflicting the Christians. The captain of these soldiers beat him severely, and St.Christopher told him: "If it was not the command of Christ which teaches me not to do unto others as they do unto us, other wise you and your soldiers could not be delivered from me." The captain sent to inform Decius concerning him, who sent two hundred soldiers to bring him. On their way, the bread they had was consumed except for a little of it. He prayed and blessed that little of bread and became in abundance. The soldiers marvelled exceedingly and believed on the Lord Christ the God of Christopher. When they arrived to Antioch they were baptized by the hands of Abba Paul the Patriarch.

When St. Christopher came before Decius, who became frightened from his appearance, tried to charm, persuade and deceive him to deny Christ. Then he sent two beautiful women to make him fall into sin with them. He rebuked and preached them and they believed on the Lord Christ. They confessed their faith in the Lord Before the Emperor, who ordered them to be beheaded and they received the crown of martyrdom. As of this Saint, he was cast into a huge cauldron over hot fire, but no harm whatsoever came to him. The people present were amazed and they believed on the Lord Christ. They came forward to remove him out of the cauldron but the Emperor ordered them to be cut off with the swords. The emperor finally ordered to cut off St. Christopher's neck and he received the crown of martyrdom.

May his intercession be with us. Amen..

Departure of Pope Yoannis the Ninth, the Eighty-First Patriarch

On this day also of the year 1043 A.M., on the 29th of March 1327 A.D. Pope Yoannis the ninth, the eighty first Pope departed. He was from Nephia - Menofia and was known as Yoannis El-Nakady. During his days many tribulations befell the Christians, who were killed or burned or crucified. The Moslems ridiculed them by putting them on camels, dressing them with turbans and blue clothes. But the lord had sympathy upon his people with His great mercy. The Pope departed at Haret Zewaila and was buried at El Nastoor monastery after he had stayed on the Chair for 6 years and 6 month.

May his prayers be with us and glory be to God forever. Amen.
