Interesting Statistics

The King James Version of the Bible holds a place of pre-eminence and is the most widely read book among the English speaking peoples of the world. This is true largely because its contents are revelations from the Deity of the universe. There are many interesting facts about its literary composition and its mechanical make-up. It is a holy volume consisting of sixty-six separate books written by thirty-six or more inspired authors during a period of nearly sixteen hundred years. It contains two Testaments, one known as the Old and the other as the New. The Old Testament contains thirty-nine books whereas the New has a total of twenty-seven books. This Bible is comprised of 3,566,480 letters, 31,173 verses, and 1,189 chapters. "And," the most commonly used word occurs 46,377 times; the word "Jehovah" or "Lord" appears 7,736 times; while the word "eternity" appears only once.

The longest book of the Old Testament is Psalms; the shortest is the Obadiah; the longest book of the New Testament is St. Luke; and the shortest is the third Epistle of St. John. The longest chapter of the entire Bible is Psalm 119, and the shortest is Psalm 117 which is also the middle chapter. The longest verse of the Bible is the nith verse of the eighth chapter of Esther; the shortest is the thirty-fifth verse of the eleventh chapter of St. John. The middle book of the Old Testament is Proverbs; the middle book of the New Testament is 2 Thessalonians; the middle verse of the Old Testament is 2 Chronicles 20:17; the middle verse of the New Testament is Acts 17:17. The longest word of the Bible is a proper name "Mahershalalhashbaz" found in Isaiah 8:1. The nineteenth chapter of 2 Kings and the thirty seventh chapter of Isaiah are almost identical. The name of God does not appear in the book of Esther. The number of Bibles printed, complete or in part now published and distributed in the United States, is in excess of 8,000,000 annually.
